![]() To use the media keys, you’ll have to hold the fn key located on the right below the “?” key. The keyboard offers a full sized experience, including function and media keys. These keys are surrounded by a thick black plastic and an optional palm rest, which I use. The lights do shine through the keys a little, but the actual effect makes it look like the keys are floating on a cloud of lights. Instead of the very bright, through the key lighting, the Ornata uses more of a halo effect underneath the keys. Surrounding each key is Razer’s excellent Chroma lighting. So, basically, it’s a clicky and comfy mechanical keyboard! The keycaps are mid-height, which makes your movement around the keyboard easier, and for the actuation of the key to occur sooner. What it actually is, paraphrasing Razer, is a combination of the soft cushioned rubber dome of a membrane with the crisp, tactile click of a mechanical switch. That’s what the Membrane tech has provided me – faster, more accurate typing. Yes – I’m normally a fast typist and this is a little higher than normal. My typing accuracy is very high and my words per minute averaged 103. This Ornata with the Mecha-Membrane keys has the best feeling. I’ve used every Razer keyboard for an extended period of time. There is very little I’d suggest Razer alter for the next version. And the lighting effects, courtesy of Razer’s Chroma technology, provides flare and flexibility. It has a wonderful key-press experience – particularly for touch typing. Razer’s Ornata keyboard with Mecha-Membrane keys is nearly the best keyboard I’ve ever used. Chroma lighting effects are best in class. So I'm going to return the keyboard and go back to membrane anyway. Thanks to Razer for providing GWW with this review unit. Overall a good keyboard, but it doesn't perform satisfactorily. ![]() It is also a pity that the cord cannot be disconnected, this cord is of good quality, but if it breaks you can no longer use your entire keyboard. Some keys are already quite grubby, while I always use the keyboard with fairly clean hands. In addition, it is noticeable that the coating of the keys absorbs grease and dirt very easily. Please note that I bought the product as a 'second chance'. ![]() I don't expect this kind of wear after 14 days. The keys I've used often are a lot softer and easier to hit. Now when I compare the keys I use often (just the letters I type a lot with) with keys I don't use often (function keys, for example) there is a clear difference to be felt and heard. At first I didn't think this was a real problem, but it started to stand out to me more and more. At that time I started to notice that certain keys click less than others, and also the difference whether the key is struck at the top or bottom. The supplied palm rest is very nice and feels good, very nice that it is included for free! The keyboard feels sturdy, and probably won't wear out quickly. On the mac, a number of functions simply do not work, such as quickly switching profiles with the fn + number key. I use both operating systems on a daily basis, and it was a must for me that the software works well on both systems. ![]() The software is good, but certainly not for the Mac. You can't think of it that crazy or there is a lighting mode for it, otherwise you might as well put it together yourself. All keys are individually illuminated, and with the software you can adjust this exposure as desired. In addition, the keyboard also just looks good, as you are used to from Razer. What I first noticed was that the keys are indeed a lot less loud, still a clear click but absolutely not disturbing. I'm personally not a big fan of the loud clicking noise of fully mechanical keyboards, so I decided to give the semi-mechanical keys a shot. I bought the Razer Ornata Chroma because I was looking for an alternative to Membrane Switches. ![]()
